A Review

Another product on the I love it so much I'm gonna put a ring on it list! I had been hearing a lot about Veil Cosmetics Illuminating Complexion Fix for Face and Eyes but I thought it's probably just another click pen highlighter~No big deal! We all know that Touche Eclat rules that universe, however there had been a rumor that they changed their formulation and it is not the same as the original that has gained ridiculous cult status. I am not sure if that is true or not but I decided to give Veil a go when my friend Ro, a fellow makeup artist was raving about it. 

This little beauty is unlike anything I have ever tried. First, it comes in 4 shade families with 3 undertones per shade. I purchased 2P in the light family which has a gorgeous light pink undertone which neutralizes out the lovely dark circles I get under my eyes. 

So most click pen highlighters (Touche Eclat included) do exactly that, they highlight. They do not conceal. You still have to use a concealer if you are trying to conceal anything. Veil's click pen will cover and brighten without settling into fine lines. This is a buildable coverage so you can apply as much as you like and it never gets cakey or settles into lines. Never, no matter how much I apply and it stays put really well. 

So here's my one giant complaint:

For those of you not familiar with click pen application, you twist or click (in this case twist) the pen until product is released into the brush applicator. Initially, you have to click it approximately 1026 times before any product is released but then there should be no problem getting product to load onto the brush. Not in this case. It takes forever to get product to load so after like 10 clicks, I get frustrated, lose my patience and click it another 100 times rapidly until I get some product. Sometimes that causes too much product to be released, I use it all and then put the cap back on and throw it in my makeup bag. The next time I use it, it looks like there was a product explosion in the cap because product keeps releasing. I'm not sure if I received a defective one or maybe I am expecting too much product to be released at once but the packaging is my only complaint. 

So there you have it! Regardless of the packaging issue I would definitely repurchase and I recommend this product to anyone.

Review: Temptu Pro S/B Concealer Wheel and S/B Neutralizer Wheel

 

Something comes over me when I see makeup. I know you all know that I love makeup but I have a visceral reaction when I see certain makeup and colors, specifically bright, candy colored makeup, usually in a cream form. Even if I do not know what I would do with these colors, I feel the need to own them, touch them, wear them, play with them. I almost want to become them or ingest them (weirdo). It's hard to explain. 

So off of the recommendation of a well known, respected makeup artist, I went in search of the Temptu Pro S/B Concealer Wheel and in turn, found the S/B Neutralizer Wheel. So I purchased both!

I couldn't wait to try the Neutralizer Wheel hence the divot marks from my spatula!

 

First up-the S/B Concealer Wheel. 

This is a silicone based formula. I will do a post on the different makeup formulations and what they mean to you. It contains 5 different skin tones to create a flawless complexion. 
I initially fell madly in love with the texture of this product. Creamier than anything you can possibly imagine but therein lies the problem. They have a whole lot of slip and move around a bit. If you put a little extra effort into setting this product, you may not mind it but this is not going to be a product you apply and go. It does move and can crease in fine lines if not properly set. I have used this on a bride and it stayed the whole day, however I do a lot of prep work to make sure a brides makeup does not move. Like I said, if you want to put a little extra effort into your daily routine, you may not mind the creaminess. For the time being I have kept this in my personal kit. I would be afraid this product would melt off under hot lights or in humid conditions. I'm still playing around with it to figure it out because I really want to love it. I also feel like this gives a sheer coverage. If you don't have a ton to cover, this may be the product for you. Also, this will work well for fair to medium skin tones and you can use this to highlight and contour as well. There is only 1 option for this wheel and I'm not sure if this would work on darker skin tones. I think Temptu Pro needs to expand the color options for this wheel.

Next up, the S/B Neutralizer Wheel.

 Look at how stinkin pretty these colors are! I was immediately sucked into it's colorful beauty. I had to have them. I did not ingest them. Again, this wheel contains 5 colors used for correcting skin imperfections. 

• Peach/Salmon-Neutralizes Blue
• Pink-Brightens skin
• Green-Neutralizes Red
• Lavender-Neutralizes Yellow/Sallow skin
• Yellow-Neutralizes Purple

Again, there is a lot of slip so this product moves easily. They are a dream to blend but they need to be set really well. I do not feel this product has enough coverage or saturation of color to properly correct. Since this is Temptu Pro and is a pro line aimed at pro's, you should be able to use these in multiple situations. For example, the peach corrector is lovely for someone looking to get rid of blue toned dark circles under their eyes as long as they are not too dark. You don't even have to mix this with anything else, it is that subtle-too subtle for pro use. I tried to use this to cover a tattoo, however I could not get the depth of color that you need to completely cover a tattoo. I sometimes use the pink as a cream blush and it adds a nice pop of color to the skin. I think this palette would be better off for the everyday consumer than for a professional makeup artist. 

I really love the feel of these products and would recommend the concealer wheel for anyone who would like to have multiple colors to blend and play with, of course keep in mind you will have to powder. If you are a professional looking for a true corrector palette, I would hold out for something else.

ULTA Shopping Trip with Anastasia Dipbrow and NYX

While I was on vacation in Florida visiting the parents, me and the mother went makeup shopping at Ulta. Mother had never been to Ulta and she was interested in purchasing an Anastasia Dipbrow, as well as a new foundation. I was just interested in shopping for makeup. She also kept calling it Ultra which would be another post about my mother's vocabulary that she has made up. She makes up her own words. Similar to if you told her your name was Steve, she would call you Stove. We went to Selby gardens, she kept calling it Shelby Gardens. You get the picture. It brings me endless entertainment and material to tease her with. 

Hi Mom! **WAVES** 

While we are discussing my mother, that woman made a $125 skin care purchase without consulting me. What the hell was she thinking? AND she's not even using the damn product! Her irrational behavior concerns me. 

So this is what I purchased, another Dipbrow in Auburn, NYX HD Photogenic concealer, an Ulta Gel Liner, Ulta Automatic Liner, NYX Retractable liner and an Ulta Lipstick.

First Dipbrow ($18.00). I love this stuff but OMWow! You need to use a light hand because it's very easy to go from natural to Groucho Marx in the very quick swipe of your brush. The Auburn is much better suited for me especially with the hair color I am rocking right now but if you are not careful, your brows can look a little intense. 

Next up, NYX HD Concealer in Yellow. This stuff is yellow so if you're in the market for a yellow toned concealer, this is definitely an option. The texture is thin which is good for High Def and I've had no issues with it settling into fine lines, however the coverage did not blow me away. This is good if you don't have a ton to cover. You can use it as a color corrector and possibly a highlighter if your skin is darker toned. Either way it cost $4.99 so how can you go wrong?

The Ulta lipstick was a BOGO so the mother bought one and I got mine for free. Thanks Mom! The color I chose was #206 which is an orangey, coral-ly, peachy color(?) I picked it because I actually wanted a lipstick with color. I am a nude lip girl but when I get around sunshine and warm weather I look for a color a little more juicy than pinky beige. Which I guess is pretty much any other color besides pinky beige. Anyhoodles, I was underwhelmed. It wasn't as juicy as I had hoped. I will probably wear it when the summer roles around but for now it's in the drawer. I want a delicious violet color which is also my niece's name so that would be two pluses.

 

Ulta Gel liner in Storm, Ulta Automatic in Black Plum (both $8.00) and NYX Waterproof Retractable liner ($4.49) in Turquoise Blue. Although green and purple are my favorite colors for brown eyes, I have not gotten much use from the Ulta purple liners but have been using the Green every day! I love a bright green on the waterline. I will use the purples this week and report back.

So that was my trip, the mother purchased a Dipbrow in blond, a Calvin Klein foundation, some lipsticks and nail polish and I can't remember what else. 

Some more updates for you, the breath mints that I received in my last Birchbox-they are freaking POP ROCKS! What am I 12? What adult wants to walk around with Pop Rocks popping off in their mouth? They aren't even minty-they taste sweet which can be cloying and not refreshing. 

Also, I keep reading about people using lemon juice on their face as some kind of brightener or face treatment? PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS PEOPLE. Besides the fact that lemon is highly irritating when applied directly to your skin, from what I understand it can cause a phototoxic reaction which basically will burn and blister your skin which means you are DAMAGING YOUR SKIN. Please stop blindly following people who tell you to do this crazy shit to your skin (and your eyelashes). Research everything. Even the stuff that I tell you, research and make sure I am correct.

Sephora Mini Haul

It was 19 degrees in NYC today, just painful-colder than a pimp's heart. I showed up early for a meeting and had to find something to do for 45 minutes so I wandered into Sephora with a gift card burning a hole in my pocket. Quite dangerous in my opinion as I like to already have a purchase list going in so I do not make foolish decisions because I get giddy around all of that color and glossiness. Whole Foods has the same effect on me, as if I've never seen food.

I replenished my MUFE HD Foundation stash, I purchased a travel sized They're Real Mascara from Benefit because I am tired of hearing how wonderful and amazing it is, I will try it for myself and report back to you. I also purchased 2 YSL lip glosses which I will review after I have worn them for a minute. I believe I showed some restraint and actually put products back on the shelf after making the big girl decision that they weren't in my budget this shopping trip. While I was at it, I did pick up a sample of Buxom Show Some Skin Weightless Foundation. What is with all the ridiculous long names of products? Shorten it up people. 

I will wear these for a bit and then tell you my thoughts. Thanks to my Sephora visit, I now have my eye on Ardency Inn Monster Smooth Ride Super Charged Eyeliner (the names) in a really gorgeous deep purple color, Kat Von D's Lock It Tattoo Concealer, MUFE HD Invisible Cover Concealer and MUFE cream blush in a pump, I don't know the proper name but I am sure it is a mile long. 

You guys probably will not hear from me the rest of the week. I will be in Boston for a business trip. I am quite excited about that because I've never been.

Coastal Scents Camouflage Palette Review

As someone who has not been doing makeup for a very long time, I am always looking for reasonably priced, quality products to add to my makeup kit. One of the things about becoming a makeup artist is that it can be quite expensive to purchase the products you will need to have a well rounded kit. Remember, you are not buying for 1 skin type/color, you are buying for all skin types and tones because you never know whose skin you are going to be working on and you always want to be prepared. Bobbi Brown's BBU concealer and foundation palette cost $250. That is a wonderful product that not everyone can invest in right away, so I am always on the lookout for inexpensive palettes. 

I purchased Coastal Scents Camouflage Palette after reading some really good reviews about it online. The palette comes with 10 creamy concealer shades, ranging from light to dark with cool and warm undertones. The packaging is a bit flimsy and does not come with a mirror. These concealers are a bit on the drier side of creamy and could benefit from some warming up prior to applying on the skin. I'm sure these will be great in the summer when it's not 9 degrees out. Someone had said online, that they hit the palette with their hairdryer while they are getting ready to warm them up a bit. 

They provide good coverage so I have been using these mostly to cover blemishes or skin discolorations and have not had to set with powder too much as the product seems to stay put. I have shied away from applying them under the eye because they aren't very creamy but I'm still playing around with them. This palette cost less than $10 so it would be a great option for someone to add to their kit or if they just want to try something new. Coastal Scents also has a 15 piece set for $15.
