A Review

Another product on the I love it so much I'm gonna put a ring on it list! I had been hearing a lot about Veil Cosmetics Illuminating Complexion Fix for Face and Eyes but I thought it's probably just another click pen highlighter~No big deal! We all know that Touche Eclat rules that universe, however there had been a rumor that they changed their formulation and it is not the same as the original that has gained ridiculous cult status. I am not sure if that is true or not but I decided to give Veil a go when my friend Ro, a fellow makeup artist was raving about it. 

This little beauty is unlike anything I have ever tried. First, it comes in 4 shade families with 3 undertones per shade. I purchased 2P in the light family which has a gorgeous light pink undertone which neutralizes out the lovely dark circles I get under my eyes. 

So most click pen highlighters (Touche Eclat included) do exactly that, they highlight. They do not conceal. You still have to use a concealer if you are trying to conceal anything. Veil's click pen will cover and brighten without settling into fine lines. This is a buildable coverage so you can apply as much as you like and it never gets cakey or settles into lines. Never, no matter how much I apply and it stays put really well. 

So here's my one giant complaint:

For those of you not familiar with click pen application, you twist or click (in this case twist) the pen until product is released into the brush applicator. Initially, you have to click it approximately 1026 times before any product is released but then there should be no problem getting product to load onto the brush. Not in this case. It takes forever to get product to load so after like 10 clicks, I get frustrated, lose my patience and click it another 100 times rapidly until I get some product. Sometimes that causes too much product to be released, I use it all and then put the cap back on and throw it in my makeup bag. The next time I use it, it looks like there was a product explosion in the cap because product keeps releasing. I'm not sure if I received a defective one or maybe I am expecting too much product to be released at once but the packaging is my only complaint. 

So there you have it! Regardless of the packaging issue I would definitely repurchase and I recommend this product to anyone.

Spoiler Alert-October Birchbox

Oh hiiii!!

My favorite time of the month is here! 

It's Birchbox time!

 

So in this month's box, I received a liquid pearl illuminator from Benefit, shampoo and conditioner from Bain de Terre, a face mask from Karuna and a new product from Chapstick.

Ok first, Girl Meets Pearl by Benefit in Golden Pink. I freakin LOVE this product! I have only been using this a few days but I am already madly in love with this. This is a gorgeous highlighter that creates the perfect glow, plus we all know that I think pink and gold are a marriage made in makeup heaven.

Next, Bain de Terre Macadamia Oil Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner. I have not yet tried these but I am looking forward to it. I have used Bain de Terre products before and have liked them a lot so I have high hopes for these. I do have to travel in about a month so I may wait and take these with me to use. I will let you know how in my update post if I waited and if I loved them. 

Next up, a Clarifying Treatment Mask from Karuna. 

According to the package:

Shiso, a Japanese Green Leaf, plus Ginger work to keep your skin clear and healthy, while Honey soothes and provides oil-free hydration. 

All Karuna masks contain a custom-blended beauty boost. Plant extracts, peptides, and anti-oxidants bring care and compassion to all skin types with a feeling of hydration, nourishment and renewal. 

I will be using this tomorrow night. Honey has made my skin break out in the past so I am a little nervous, however this contains Salicylic Acid so hopefully it will counteract any clogging. This has lots of good stuff in it but then the very last ingredient is fragrance. Ugh. Boooooo. 

Lastly, a new product from Chapstick.

According to the packaging:

ChapStick Hydrarion Lock provides advanced moisturization to revitalize and visibly improve the appearance of your lips. It provides 8 hour moisture, contains antioxidant CoQ10, contains hyaluronic filling spheres, gives lips a fuller and smoother appearance, has a light, silky texture for instant smoothness and enhanced lip feel.

This product does contain petroleum and parabans so it may be a pass for me. 

I give this box a solid 7 (I subtracted a point for the chapstick). 

These are all new products for me and I am excited to try all of them (except the ChapStick), 

plus I'm already in love with the Benefit product!

Physician's Formula Review

Hi there! 

Sorry I disappeared for a minute but life gets in the way and I went into vacation mode. Thanks to all that have stuck around and I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

So I was lazing around, just minding my own business when I bumped into two products that made me snap out of my summertime stupor. 

Some of the problems us fair skinned lovelies have with bronzing powders are that they can pull too orange or muddy on our skin. A bronzer should make you looked sun kissed, not like an Oompa Loompa and dirt had a baby. So on my recent first visit to Ulta (I know, where have I been?), I decided to try Physicians Formula (a line I do not recall ever trying before) Mineral Airbrushing Bronzer SPF 30 in the shade Light Bronzer. I am so happy I found this product! Let me first say that this is so finely milled, it is pretty much goof proof for anyone worried about blending it. It does give an airbrushed effect and it has a high SPF so it is protective as well. The Light shade has a pinky, sandy, neutral tone to it (no orange!), which works really well with my fair/medium skin. I use it more for contour as it is a satiny matte with no shimmer and blends really well. I am not sure how well this would show up on a darker skin tone but you can try the darker shade. Also, it was less than $8 at Ulta! I believe they had a buy one, get 2nd 1/2 off. It usually runs about $13. My one complaint would be the packaging-it is quite cumbersome. The Bronzer comes with a mirror and a brush (which I will never use) but it is bulky and awkward to carry. 

Hey Physician's Formula, ditch the brush and make the packaging slimmer please!

The Bronzer is showing up lighter in the photo than in person but this shade is definitely for light skinned ladies. 

The second product is a highlighter, also from Physicians Formula. I bought Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl after being drawn to the bumpy pearl like texture and the pinkish sheen of the product. I have to say, I am impressed with Physicians Formula's products. This product is again, very finely milled and provided a subtle sheen perfect for highlighting. It is pretty translucent, leaning towards the white side than the pink. It does not settle into lines, it just creates a healthy glow. I would use this on cheekbones, brow bones and down the bridge of the nose. I paid $13.99.

Again, epic fail on the packaging. Another bulky compact with a useless brush. 

All and all, two great, reasonably priced products worth a try.
