RedKen Stay High 18

This is a hair post. I was going to start by writing about how I never write about hair stuff but I think I have started a few post with that sentence so I guess I do sometimes write about hair stuff. So here we go again!

I have fine hair. I have a decent amount of it but it is fine none the less. I am always looking for ways to add volume to my sometimes lifeless, pin straight hair. I always said my hair game is holding me back in life. I change the color up a bunch and sometimes will cut bangs in but for the most part, I style it the same all the time because I feel like I don't have a choice. I love sexy, big, voluminous hair with tons of body a la every sexy bombshell pretty much ever. For as much time as I spend on product research for makeup is as little time that I spend on product research for hair.

I mentioned my quest for big hair the last time I was getting my bi-monthly salon visit and on the recommendation of my hair stylist, I purchased Stay High 18 Hair Gel/Mousse by Redken.

So yeah-interesting name. Interesting name for an interesting product. This is a gel that turns into a mousse. Crazy right!? You dispense a little in your hand, it will initially be a clear gel, starts to foam a little and then when you rub your hands together it will miraculously turn into a mousse! As I've said, I don't research too much hair products so I am not sure if a product like this already exist so it was very fascinating for me! It will not be a light, fluffy mousse. This is definitely a heavier mousse that still has a bit of a gel texture to it. I am not sure if the gel to mousse texture does anything special or if it is just a gimmick but I do know that this stuff works!
My stylist told me to use it at the roots, the bottle says to use it root to tip. Do whatever works for you, this product is not a "crunchy" product so you can use it however you want. I use only at the roots but have done both. The first time I used it I released too much product, decided to use it all, then thought "well you fcked up now" but my hair did not feel too heavy or producty at all once it dried.

This product leaves your hair full of body with some decent lift at the roots. I have recently taken a blow dry class and that has actually upped my volume game a bit. Everyone should learn how to properly blow dry their hair! I just want to blow dry my hair big and this product, along with the proper technique helps with that!

My one negative critique of this product is as usual with the packaging. This pump dispenser has the tendency to dispense too much product if you are not careful. One quick short pump should do the trick to cover your roots with product. The box is cute and once you open it, it has instructions on how to create 3 different runway looks. Cute idea but honestly, the instructions are way too simple for these runway hair looks.

You can purchase Stay High 18 at Ulta for $24.

The International Beauty Show at Jacob Javits Center

The beautiful ceiling at the Jacob Javits Center

The International Beauty Show was just in town this week at the Jacob Javits Center. Three full days of crazy creativity!

The energy at these shows are just incredible! It really hits you like a wall of sound, beauty, fantasy and theatrics all at once.

I have never attended IBS before. This show focuses more on hair, nails and spa treatments then it does makeup. That combined with the fact that I had a bad head cold probably saved my wallet. I could not think of anything but climbing into bed. And hot soup, I thought a lot about hot soup. I did walk away with Ardel lashes, a brush from Crown Brushes and Hair Chalk in purple, which does not show up at all in my hair. I have to figure out if I am not applying it properly, otherwise this will be purple hair chalk for my eyebrows.

All of this cost me a whopping $19! Love the savings at the trade shows!

Ardel lashes are available at any drugstore, supermarket or beauty supply store.

I will figure this out and I will have purple hair!

I love this Crown Brush-it comes to a little point. Perfect for the outer corner/crease.
I love the trade shows and usually attend IMATS and The Makeup Show but I find them so damn overwhelming that sometimes it is hard to truly enjoy them. I usually go with a plan. I make a list of the products I need and the companies I want to visit and tackle it that way, otherwise I am like a deer in the headlights, wanting everything and purchasing nothing. Pair your favorite products/companies with blasting music, tons of beautiful visual stimulation, thousands of people all trying to look at the same products you are and your favorite stars of the makeup world and it can be quite a lot to absorb all at once.
Like I said, this show focused on hair and nails. We all know how I feel about nails so I really could not care less about nail related products but I am in the market for a good hair dryer. There were around 200 different distributors of hair dryers there with a selection of approximately 1000 different options. I left empty handed. I will have a much easier time going to Ulta and choosing from the 5 they offer that are in my price range.

So here are some photos. I wish I captured some good photos of the massive crowds. Blast some beat driven music and get the full experience! Enjoy!

Spoiler Alert-September Birch Box Reveled

Look what's here!!

Yay! My favorite time of the month-BirchBox time!

So these are the goodies that I received this month:

As you can see, very generous sized samples!

  • Davines Sea Salt Spray
  • Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Lip Gloss in Precious Petal
  • Ruffian Nail Lacquer in Fox Hunt
  • Paula's Choice Resist BHA 9 ~what a coinkydink, no?
  • Pearly Wipes Clean Up Your Kisser
So I would say on a scale of 1-10 this box is a 5/6. I'll explain why.

First, I have never used a sea salt spray for my hair, I would've probably loved to have tried this at the beginning of or mid-summer but coming into fall, I am picturing a little more sleekness in my hair styles. Also, the products in the box had a bit of salt on them so I am wondering how this is going to work in my hair.
I will follow up on this one for all you kitties that are waiting on the edge of your seats.
I am quite excited about the Elizabeth Arden lip gloss, it is a gorgeous shade of pink with a heavy dose of gold shimmer in it. This gloss looks like it was made for me and me thinks gold makes everything look better! Next, the nail lacquer is ok-I don't generally get worked up over polish as I never do my own nails. The Paula's Choice BHA 9- one of my favorite products but I have a full bottle of it-maybe I will pass this one to my momma. Finally, the Pearly Wipes--wiping your teeth is not exciting at all. Enough said.

So I will let you all know how these products work out for me. Maybe I will find a Holy Grail product in the mix!

We shall see~

Until next time,
Big Kisses to All!!
